Here are some notes, followed by one of our occasional sets of links to selected on-line articles.
1. Information on the memorial event for historian Jesse Lemisch, co-sponsored by H-PAD, has been posted on the New York University website. (It may be necessary to scroll down a bit.) The event takes place at NYU’s Tamiment Library from 4:30 to 6:30 on Thursday, December 6. Scheduled speakers include Staughton Lynd (via Skype), Marcus Rediker, and Ann D. Gordon, with time provided for attendees to share memories and comments. The Web page includes an RSVP form.
2. Veterans for Peace has published, in print and on-line, a 16-page set of articles on the history and lessons of World War One, under the title “Reclaiming Armistice Day, 1918-2018.” “Reclaiming” refers to the fact that the original name of the November 11 holiday celebrated peace – end of a devastating war – but was replaced by “Veterans Day” at the height of the Cold War.
3. Another new posting on World War One is a long, richly illustrated essay by Charles F. Howlett, Jeremy Kuzmarov, and Roger Peace, entitled “United States Participation in World War One,” It is a new addition to the United States Foreign Policy History & Resource Guide website, co-sponsored by H-PAD.
