HAW at the AHA
| |||
Dear members and supporters of Historians Against the War, In less than four weeks, many of us will be attending the Annual Meeting of the American Historical Association, January 8-11 in Washington DC. HAW has a full program of activities at the AHA. First, we will be using this opportunity to formalize our organizational structure. At our Business Meeting at 5:30 on Friday, January 9 in the Diplomatic Ballroom of the Omni Shoreham, we will vote on a proposed Structure and Functioning document (see the attached proposal, and the attached agenda). We will also be electing a Steering Committee to replace the existing interim body. If you are interested in running for the Steering Committee, please use the attached nomination form. If you plan to attend the Business Meeting as a member, you need to have signed our current Statement on the Occupation of Iraq. If you have not already done so, or to check if you are on our list of signatures, see our statement at http://www.historiansagainstwar.org/. Please forward the statement to your friends; we need lots more signers. Of course, you can sign at the meeting itself. HAW also has a roundtable in conjunction with the Radical History Review on Saturday, January 10, “Imperial Crisis and Domestic Dissent,” with David Montgomery, Irene Gendzier, Carolyn Eisenberg, and Staughton Lynd (2:30-4:30, Omni Shoreham, Congressional A). And later that day we are co-sponsoring a reception with the Peace History Society, at 5 in the Ambassador Ballroom of the Omni Shoreham. During that same period, a HAW-sponsored resolution asking the AHA to go on record as defending civil liberties and the right of dissent will be voted on at the Association’s Business Meeting, and we urge our supporters to attend and vote for it. Finally, we will be actively tabling and petitioning throughout the meeting, distributing a Special Issue of the Radical Historians Newsletter, and handing out for free HAW Pamphlet #1, “A Short Annotated Bibliography of English Language Sources on the Middle East and South Asia,” edited by Marvin Gettleman and Stuart Schaar. This is a full plate, and we need your active help and support. Please sign on, send a donation, come and petition with us, attend the Business Meeting! As they say, there’s a war on. In solidarity, Van Gosse and Andor Skotnes, Co-Chairs |
