          | FORGETTING FACTS / REMEMBERING MYTHS: Historians Against the War HAW organizer and history prof Andor Skotnes (Sage College, Troy NY), notes the use of history in legitimizing power. Facts fade, but myths of democracy and the notion of an innocent America are continually reinforced. Learning history is crucial for challenging power, challenging lies. NYC 2/15/03

          | HISTORIANS AGAINST WAR:
Feb. 15, 2003 pre-march rally, NYC. David Serlin, history prof at Bard Early College and HAW organizer,
answers the question: why are there (seemingly) so few historians
against the war? The answer, Serlin explains, has to do with the sin
of "presentism" -- which is applying professionally lessons
from history to understand the present. Historians busy themselves
with the past, dontcha know? HAW challenges the group think.
